Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson
As the sun sinks behind the horizon, the fracking crew presses on—steel against shale, sweat against cold. The rigs hum, the lights flicker, and the ground begins to yield.
The Ground Gives at Dusk captures the raw pulse of oilfield life: high stakes, long hours, and the quiet desperation of making a paycheck in a world that rarely sees the faces behind the fuel. It’s a portrait of resilience—of men and women who work where risk is routine and reward is never guaranteed.
This image is not just about industry—it’s about endurance. About the rhythm of labor that stretches past sunset, into the bone-deep dark. It’s a tribute to those who coax power from the earth, one shift at a time.
Here, dusk isn’t an ending—it’s a beginning. The ground gives, but only to those willing to take the weight.
