Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson
Two mule deer bucks clash in the snow—antlers locked, eyes burning with primal intent. This image captures a moment of raw, unrelenting force: the pinnacle of masculinity as shaped by nature’s hand. It is not brutality for its own sake, but ritual—an ancient rhythm of dominance, survival, and legacy.
Set against the stark silence of a Canadian winter, the scene becomes mythic. The snow absorbs the sound, framing the violence in purity. Their gaze is not just toward each other, but into the heart of instinct itself. This is nature unfiltered—where strength is tested, lineage is earned, and the earth bears witness.
As Nature Wills is a meditation on power, purpose, and the sacred violence woven into the fabric of life. It reflects the tension between beauty and brutality, between the stillness of snow and the storm within. It is masculinity not as performance, but as elemental truth.
