Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson

From the side of the Reaper, a face emerges—elongated, anguished, frozen in a scream that will never be heard. This is not the moment of death, but what follows: the soul’s desperate cry to undo what cannot be undone.

“Regret in Death” captures the torment of unfinished business, the weight of remorse carried too late. The figure does not plead for mercy—it pleads for time. But time has already passed. The Reaper has claimed what was his, and the soul, though still reaching, is tethered to the inevitable.

This image is a meditation on consequence. On the silence that follows avoidance. On the truth that death does not erase regret—it crystallizes it.

Together with The Keeper of What Is to Come, this piece explores the emotional architecture of endings: the burden of souls, the finality of passage, and the haunting echo of what we leave unresolved.
