Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson
In this monochrome portrait, the rig sits silent—steel bones against a pale sky. Idle, it waits. Without its crew, it is nothing but a monument to potential. Rig 6 is not about machinery. It’s about the hands that bring it to life.
This image honors the oilfield workers whose grit powers the patch. They move from well to well, through cold, through exhaustion, through terrain that wears down both man and metal. The rig may be the symbol, but the story belongs to those who run it—those who know the earth’s secrets, who listen for the tremors, who face the dragons that rumble below.
Rig 6 is a tribute to labor that goes unseen. To the strength forged in repetition. To the knowledge passed through calloused hands. It reminds us that behind every towering structure is a crew that gives it purpose—and without them, even giants sleep.
