Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson
On a brisk winter day in western Alberta, a herd of bighorn sheep grazes across the rocky slope—earthbound, focused, enduring. Yet one lifts its gaze skyward, as if offering silent thanks to the sun, the season, and the sustenance beneath its hooves.
Skyward and Still is a meditation on presence and grace. It reflects the balance between survival and serenity, between instinct and something deeper—perhaps reverence. In that upward glance, we see more than a gesture; we see a moment of connection between creature and cosmos.
This image honors the quiet rituals of the wild. The way animals, like us, move through cycles of hardship and renewal. It’s a portrait of unity, of shared space, and of the stillness that speaks louder than motion.
