Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson

A spider weaves its prey into silk against a rain-streaked window—an autumn ritual, quiet and absolute. One side of the pane glistens with droplets, like tears. The other side remains bare, a void. Between them, the moment hangs: final, fragile, and irreversible.

Tears of Reflection is a meditation on consequence. The fly’s fate is sealed not in violence, but in stillness. It speaks to the human experience of regret—how one misstep, one moment of blindness, can lead to an end we never saw coming.

This image is not just about nature’s brutality. It’s about the mirror it holds to our own fragility. The rain becomes sorrow. The silk becomes silence. And the window becomes a threshold between what was and what cannot be undone.

A tribute to reflection in its truest form—when it’s too late to change, and all that remains is the weight of knowing.
