Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson

On a storm-darkened winter day, a lone grain bin stands beside a bare tree—both weathered, both waiting. The monochrome palette strips away distraction, leaving only the stark truth of survival. Visibility is low, the cold is heavy, and the silence speaks louder than words.

The Last Grain Bin is a meditation on the endurance of farmers and pioneers who faced the dead of winter with grit and grace. The bin, isolated and aging, symbolizes the scarcity of food and the fragile hope carried forward from the previous harvest. In these late months, when supplies ran lean, survival depended on what was stored—and what could not be replaced.

The tree, stripped but standing, represents resilience. It is the quiet strength of those who bore the season’s weight without complaint. Together, they form a portrait of perseverance—of lives shaped by necessity, patience, and the cold truth of time.
