Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson

Beneath the vast serenity of a mountain valley, a river rages—tucked into a crevice, cliffed between trees, unseen by most who pass.

This photograph captures the tension between appearance and truth. The landscape is breathtaking: open skies, distant peaks, and the illusion of peace. But within the folds of the earth, the water tells another story—one of force, erosion, and relentless motion.

Where the Wild Keeps Its Secrets is a portrait of hidden turmoil. A reflection of how we, too, carry storms beneath calm exteriors. It speaks to the quiet violence we conceal, the emotions that churn behind composed faces.

This image is a tribute to the wild within. To the places that hold their truth in shadow. To the beauty of contradiction—where rage and grace coexist, and silence is never empty.
