Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson

This photograph is a quiet homage to the resilience etched into the bones of the land and the structures that once sheltered its keepers. Shot from a low angle, the weathered cabin wall becomes a monument to endurance—its grain and scars whispering stories of labor, solitude, and survival. The bull skull, resting against the stump like a relic of sacrifice, evokes the primal bond between human and beast, hunter and hunted, life and decay.

The rusted pail and worn mat speak to utility long past, while the gravel and leaf-strewn ground mark the seasonal shift—a blue hue settling over the scene like a whisper of winter. Shadows deepen the vignette, drawing the viewer inward, into a space where time lingers and silence holds weight.

Echoes in Timber and Bone is not just a portrait of a place—it is a meditation on the hardness of lives lived close to the earth, and the beauty that remains when all that’s left is what endures.
