Description
Hint of Spring on The Smokey
Artist Statement by Dustin Ferguson
At Macleans Point on the Smokey River, winter loosens its grip—but does not yet let go.
This photograph captures the precise moment of seasonal tension: ice still clings to the river’s surface, while the banks begin to thaw, revealing veins of earth and water beneath. The hues shift wildly—teal, steel, and meltwater green—colors that exist only at the edge of transformation.
Hint of Spring on The Smokey is a portrait of in-between. Of the breath held between freeze and flow. It’s the closest thing I’ve seen to the apex of transition—where winter exhales and spring inhales.
This image is a tribute to thresholds. To the quiet drama of change. To the way rivers remember both stillness and motion.
